I'm currently shopping for a new phone. I'd like to be able to do call recording, including over bluetooth, without rooting it. I also don't like really large phones. My current phone has a 4.7 inch screen with dimensions 129.3 x 65.3 x 10.4 mm / 5.09 x 2.57 x 0.41 in. Any suggestions?

Should the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact work OK? I found a post on the Xperia XZ1, but not the Compact version specifically.

Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Android 8
============================

It works very well, no root needed.
Please use these settings to record calls:

- Record Mode: 1
- Record Format: MP3
- Tune Audio Effect: No
- Tune Audio Route: Group3

Recorded calls are crystal clear in two sides.
Confirmed by Sony G8441 Android 8.0.

Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Android 9
============================
Android 9.0 disabled the call recording feature. In recordings your own voice is good but the caller's voice is very weak, no matter what recorder you are using in the market the result is the same. You should root the phone, then use these settings to record calls:

- Record Mode: Alsa
- Alsa Device: Auto
- Alsa Bits: 16 Bits
- Alsa Channels: Auto
- Alsa Sampling Rate: Auto
- Fix Recording Issues - Change Audio Controls: Yes
- Fix Recording Issues - Change Audio Driver: No
- Fix Recording Issues - Start Input Stream: No

Recorded calls are crystal clear in two sides.
Without root there will be no solution in the world undoubtedly, with root this is exactly the solution.

I got myself a new phone:
Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact G8441
Android 9.0 Pie

Using these settings results in a very low recording volume. I can hear my voice and the voice of the one I call to, but volume is very weak. Did Android 9 Pie break anything? Which settings are recommended on Android 9 Pie for the Xperia XZ1 Compact?

Edit: Before one suggests a root hack: My phone has no root access, and the only known root hack has serious downsides like bugging the camera.

Android 9.0 disabled the call recording feature. This is the reason why your own voice is good but the caller's voice is very weak in recordings. No matter what recorder you are using in the market the result is the same. You can test and confirm this fact.
Without root there will be no solution in the world unfortunately, with root Boldbeast Recorder is exactly the solution.

Oh, well. That's is bad news, both for your customers as your company. Ty for answering anyways.

By the way: Both my recorded voice as the voice of the other side was very weak in the recording. Not just the other sides voice.
