No root needed, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Android 4.4.4, 5.0.2, 6.0.1 all record calls perfectly in two sides.
You must have found all recorders in the market work well for your Z3 Compact Android 4.4.4, 5.0.2, 5.1.1.
However after upgrading to Android 6.0.1 all other recorders don't work, Boldbeast Recorder is the only solution in the world that works well without root .

Tested not rooted Sony Z3 Compact D5803 on Android 6.0.1 with recommended settings, and Boldbeast Call Recorder is not working good. Very very hardly can hear voice on both sides, but can't understand said words.

So far there is no other user complained about Sony Z3 Compact D5803 Android 6.0.1, suggested settings work very well.
Please use exactly suggested settings to test again.
I have tried to increase volume and it helped! By increasing volume to 400% I can understand said words in call record. Maybe you need to add between recommended settings - Increase volume: 400%, that users don't have to guess what else is the problem :)

Other users don't need to increase volume.
Don't know why you have the problem with exactly the same ROM version.
